Research and Programme Experience
More Than 30 Years of Research into Fear Responses and Anxiety
Fear is an adaptive response that helps people recognise and respond to danger. Established fear-learning science explains how experience and context shape threat responses and how avoidance patterns can persist after circumstances change.
Threat Recalibration Therapy™ (TRT™) applies this science through structured psychoeducation and behavioural guidance. The programme focuses on persistent threat responses and avoidance, helping participants understand learned patterns and practise different responses in daily life.
Separately, an NHS Shropshire-commissioned, single-group pre/post outcomes evaluation reported mean GAD-7 scores falling from 18.28 to 2.84 among 61 participants—an 84.5% reduction. This measured cohort result provides a distinct view of participant-reported outcomes.
A Programme Focused on Persistent Threat Responses
Organisations use a range of approaches to support wellbeing, from employee assistance to counselling and mental health education. The Institute's programme offers an additional psychoeducational approach with a clear focus: understanding learned threat responses and avoidance.
Fear is protective, but learned threat expectations and avoidance can persist beyond an immediate danger. TRT™ uses structured psychoeducation and behavioural guidance to help participants understand these patterns and practise different responses in everyday contexts.
The Institute's approach brings established fear-learning science into a structured psychoeducation programme for individuals and organisations.
What the Institute Can Bring to Your Organisation
Psychoeducation grounded in fear-learning science
Fear is an adaptive response. Established learning science describes how experience and context shape threat responses, while avoidance can persist after circumstances change. TRT™ translates this understanding into structured psychoeducation and behavioural guidance focused on persistent threat responses and avoidance.
Research and programme development
The Institute's work includes anxiety research, applied psychophysiology, evidence-based psychoeducation and practitioner education.
Institutional evaluation references
The evaluation record identifies NHS Shropshire as commissioner and lists Martin Jensen as the author, affiliated with Kingston University and the University of Copenhagen. The study examined participant-reported GAD-7 outcomes for its 61-person cohort.

Business & Commercial Organisations
Anxiety disorder costs UK employers £56bn annually. The majority of that cost is in the professional, financial, technology, and service sectors — where cognitive performance is the primary value driver.
Education — Schools, Colleges & Universities
Schools, colleges and universities support young people with diverse learning and wellbeing needs. The Institute offers psychoeducational resources about anxiety and learned fear responses, with organisational conversations tailored to the setting.
Public Sector & Government
Public sector workers experience anxiety disorder at significantly higher rates than the general working population — in environments where the consequences of impaired performance extend beyond the individual to the communities they serve.
